My Letter to You

Well well…It certainly has been a roller coaster of a year so far hasn’t it?

It’s so crazy to see how even this past month has played out. We’ve gone from everything being just fine to being on house arrest for an indefinite amount of time seemingly overnight. It’s easy, normal even, to feel nervous, anxious, worried, stir-crazy, robbed, depressed with not knowing when we can all get back to normal work, school, and social lives…

Proms, Musicals, Sports seasons, Senior years in general canceled or postponed. Graduations and parties canceled. Weddings and Funerals having to be drastically different, postponed, or canceled. Major events (such as expos, shows, fundraisers, etc.) where so many people make such a large portion of their income for the year canceled or postponed…but let’s not forget the positives to come out of this.

The world is healing itself. Literally. There are scans on scans showing how much cleaner the air has been over areas that have been quarantined.

We as the human race are so much more compassionate than we were. We’ve taken to supporting small business in order to help sustain others lives. We’ve offered to help the elderly more whether that’s with their groceries or just letting them know we’re thinking of them. We’re sitting down to make masks for each other because of a drastic lack of them. We’re (for the most part) kinder to one another because we know that everyone is going through their own hells at this time.

We’re taking care of ourselves. We’ve all joked about how we just wanted a month or two off for ourselves - well now we have it! We can slow down: Spend time with those you live with; Call family and friends you care about; Take some time for an online class (there are SO many companies giving out free classes right now so take advantage if your income has been affected); Rework your resume; Look and apply for a new job if you’ve been unhappy in your current position; Clean/organize your house; Learn how to cook or take the time to cook yourself something good and healthy; Exercise or take your pets for walks; Take a virtual vacation to somewhere you always wanted to go; but, most importantly, Find the time to relax - you deserve it!

Then let’s not forget to shout out to the real MVPs during this crisis - Our doctors, nurses, first responders, janitors, post office and shipping persons, food service and grocery store employees, teachers, parents… When the world’s shut down, they aren’t!

I wanted to write this out to remind you that, while it feels like the world is crashing, it’s currently crashing for everyone. Stay safe. Stay healthy. And don’t let this break you.

I would love to keep the comments open as a safe space where you can share your worries - what you’ve lost; what you’re scared of/for; what’s stressing you out but also, hopefully, at least one thing that you’re grateful for during this period - your health; your family; your newfound free time so make sure you let me know below!
