Rose Pants

Helloooooo everyone!

If you follow me on Instagram, you'll know that I tested the Rose pants from Made By Rae a few weeks ago! These high-waisted pants feature a pleated, or gathered front, an elastic back waistband (you can have either a single, wide band or two smaller channels), deep slash pockets, 3 different style options (shorts, cropped, or long), and an amazing size range fitting hip measurements from 34.5" to 59" (88-150cm). This pattern is best for light to medium-weight woven fabrics (like linens, chambray, twills, challis, etc.).

Rose Pants Sketches

I made the size 5 (59" hip) long pants and decided to keep the double front pleats with the double channel back waistband using a duck cloth I had on hand. I looove how comfortable and effortless these pants are! It also helps that the pockets are deep enough to stick half of my arm into so I can go purse-less.

These pants were super simple to make - using 6 pattern pieces with clear, easy-to-follow instructions that include detailed sketches. The only changes I made from the original pattern was having to hem the pants a bit shorter (but is that even an actual "change"??) and adding an additional line of stitching down the center-back waistband so that the elastic wouldn't twist as much. It only took me a couple of hours to make up too!

This is Rae's first pattern featuring her new, extended sizing, and I can't wait to see what else comes along! These last few months alone, I've seen so much progress from indie pattern companies in creating a more inclusive size range and it constantly reminds me how much of a supportive and loving group the Instagram Sewing Community is.

This may have been my first time pattern testing, but it definitely won't be my last!

I've already planned out a few more pairs of Roses, playing with different styles and fabrics in the near future! I love the way the contrasting pockets look so I think I'll be keeping that detail in future versions.
