My Latest Obsession...
About a year ago I started working retail and teaching classes at a local sewing shop where I was introduced to some amazing tools and tips I wasn’t familiar with before.
At my job, we use Oliso irons and I’ve since become obsessed with them. My own iron (which was my moms, making it a minimum of 12 years old) decided to recently bite the dust . Since I luckily work at a sewing shop complete with a classroom and tools, I started batching my sewing and bringing those projects into work to iron on my break while I could save a little here and there to put towards buying my own Oliso.
One day in January, I had posted about that on my Instagram and Oliso themselves saw it. I’m so fortunate and grateful that they reached out and gifted me my very own iron that I can now use at home without having to wait to continue and finish my sewing projects.
Probably my favorite feature of this iron brand is their patented iTouch® technology. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had irons scorch my fabric while working on a sewing project, or even just ironing my own clothes. With this iTouch® technology, the Scorchguards™ prop the iron up so that the metal isn’t touching the surface when your hand isn’t on the handle, but lowers when you are actively using the iron. Of course you can turn off the feature with the switch on the base but I prefer keeping it on so I don’t have to tip it up onto its base continuously.
This has done some of the best pressing I’ve seen - nice, crisp edges and seams. These irons have a huge tank which is amazing for those times when you need a ton of steam, a detailer tip that’s so perfect for those small corners, heats up super quick but has an auto shut-off feature in case you forget and leave it on for too long, and, thanks to the Beadblast Chromium plate, it glides smoothly over your fabric or garments. OH! Also don’t forget that with your purchase you get a year long warranty and, if you register your iron online, that year warranty jumps up to 15 months!
Even when I used to use industrial irons, I always had the fear of the iron scorching my projects (because they definitely destroyed a couple of my projects just minutes before they were due). I’ve also had clients that had the same issues where they accidentally ruined their clothes. The 7 different settings available help keep Oliso irons from damaging your fabrics and really do give you some great creases. P.S. Your iron setting is soooo important when sewing or even just ironing your ready-to-wear clothes!
Some people think that it’s better to use distilled water when ironing. However, Oliso recommends using plain tap water or to mix half tap and half distilled water if your tap water is hard - never 100% distilled since it will actually remove minerals from the iron and ruin it over time.
Honestly, I absolutely love this iron and cannot thank Oliso enough for sending me one! It’s definitely made my life easier the last couple of months. I can make more things quickly seeing that I don’t have to wait to iron seams and interfacings during the limited time I have at work. I’ve already been able to finish making more in the last couple of months than I had last year.
In other words...Thank Oliso for speeding up all future upcoming blog posts ;)
*This iron was gifted from Oliso. My review, however, is my honest opinion about the product.
