Shop Small: Notions!
Well I’ve done my favorite small fabric shops, pattern designers… I couldn’t call it quits without throwing in my favorite notions/tools shops!
Once again, I am in no way being compensated for this list and this is all based solely on companies I have supported in the past or plan to in the near future.
Arrow Mountain (@arrowmountain)
www.etsy.com/shop/ArrowMountain
I love the wooden, minimalist look of Arrow Mountain! They’re quite famous for their phases of the moon buttons but they also have other styles of buttons as well as sewing gauges, pins, tags, and needle magnets. I’m just waiting to get my hands on some of their buttons (of course I have to do the phases of the moon) till I figure out which button down style I want!
Crafted Moon (@craftedmoon)
craftedmoon.com
I’m sure we’ve all seen at least one of Sarah Watts’s designs (I know I’ve seen her “seam reaper” design quite a bit!) at one point or another. She sells all sorts of products with her artwork - prints, cards, pins, journals, bags, stickers - and it’s not just sewing-related either!
Daytona Trimmings Co (@daytonatrim)
daytonatrim.com/shop
One of my go-tos when I’m in New York! They have tons of options for fringe, lace, rhinestones, ribbons, sequins, beads, cord, elastic, and appliques!
Kylie and the Machine
kylieandthemachine.shop
Most of us have seen Kylie’s famous labels including “MADE”, “YOU CAN’T BUY THIS”, and “IT HAS POCKETS”. But did you know that she also sells buttons and other sewing tools? I have a couple of planned makes that her shell buttons would go perfectly with!
LDH Scissors
ldhscissors.com
LDH has some of the most beautifully crafted cutting supplies I’ve seen! Fabric Shears, Pinking Shears, Fabric Shears, Rotary Cutters, Thread Snips… They have it all! Sewing not up your alley? They also make Kitchen Scissors, Pruning Shears, and Bonsai Scissors among others!
M&J Trimming (@mjtrimming)
mjtrim.com
They have hundreds and hundreds of rhinestones (hello Swarovski!), trims, cords, elastic fringe, lace, chains, ribbons, florals, buttons, appliques, buckles, patches, feathers, sequins, tassels, and more! Another New York staple!
MyBodyModel
mybodymodel.com
Personally, I haven’t used MyBodyModel since I have experience in fashion illustration and have my own library of templates I’ve created over the years but I think this is GENIUS for those who don’t know how to create fashion croquis or don’t want to. They create a croqui (or multiple) for you based on your shape and measurements and offer printable sketchbooks that include your MyBodyModel croqui(s).
Pacific Trimmings (@pacifictrimmings)
pacifictrimming.com
This place has it all! Zippers, buttons, elastic, bag handles, bag feet, tapes, horse hair, rhinestones, appliques, and more. Pacific is my personal favorite trims spot in New York for their huge assortment and reasonable prices!
Panda International Trading of NY, Inc. (@pandatrim)
pandatrim.com
Panda carries a ton of pieces that can be a little tougher to find like cord locks, adhesives, spot removers, starches, industrial sewing machine parts, shoulder pads, horsehair, boning, and then tons of label and tag options!
Pink Coat Club
pinkcoatclub.com/collections/shop-all
Well-known for her “Seamstress Pins”, she also carries a number of adorable stickers, labels, and other pins! She also has a selection of temporary tattoos, notepads, and her brand new cards up for grabs!
Sil Thread Inc.
silthreadinc.com
I LOVE this place! They carry all of the things not many do: poly and garment bags, bonings, bra making materials, marking tools, various Clover and Dritz products, cords, needles, pads, paper, rulers, French curves, L squares, sewing accessories, machine feet, tapes, tooooons of zippers, business materials, and more! It has all of those sewing accessories you might need and should have to make your life easier.
Tabitha Sewer
When she first started, Tabitha created tshirts that got a little upgrade around a year ago. At that same time she released her first sewing pattern and started working on her own button line which launched late last year! She already has a great assortment of fun, colorful buttons as well as a couple of buckle options with more to come soon!
