New Pattern Review: The Saguaro Set!

Hello, hello!

It’s been quite a while since I’ve been able to post something I’ve made thanks to some personal things that popped up but I finally got back into the swing of things with pattern testing with this super fun and versatile pattern set from Friday Pattern Company! I was fortunate enough to help work on this set (Yes - you get 2 pieces for the price of one!) and had so much fun sewing up this outfit that I already have a minimum of 3 more sets and versions planned and ready to go!

Starting off, I will say that the top is a bit low cut for us larger-chested ladies but you can easily adjust the coverage by moving the overlap a bit more than the .75” overlap stated and adjusting the height of the ties for even more coverage! However, I love being able to have access to a lower cut shirt when it seems that so many pattern options for larger ladies are a lot more modest and higher cut. It’s nice to have a sexier, lower-cut look at my disposal!

As a pattern tester, I try to make the pattern as accurate to the instructions so I made it exactly according to the measurements for my size (for reference I’m a 6X in Friday Pattern designs). The only adjustment I made was shortening the pants to fit my shorter 5’3” frame! Speaking of instructions, they’re incredibly clear and easy to follow, making this an excellent beginner sewing set as well as a quick and easy make for more seasoned sewists!

I used this absolutely stunning lilac Lyocell and rayon-blended twill that I picked up at Joann’s and let me tell you: This is the most comfortable, flowy, and lightweight set I’ve made to date. My favorite things about the pattern itself? I absolutely love how comfortable this set is and how versatile! The top is reversible and I’ve been wearing each of the pieces paired with other basics hanging out in my closet! One of my go-tos lately has been the top worn backwards with my leggings while I’m working from home. This set is also such a quick sew! A couple hours tops and it was ready to go!

After seeing so many incredible versions from sewists all over, I definitely want to make a double gauze set In time for the warmer months ahead and I’m looking forward to making a shorter sleeved option, a more modest surplice style top, some shorts, a skirt, and even a more tapered cropped leg! Unfortunately, I’ll have to put them off for a little longer as the next couple of months I’ll be busy with some other tests and commitments but either way they’ll get done by September for sure!

Make sure you snag this set today if you haven’t already!
